Press release: Lower risk of theft in business
parks with proactive surveillance, remote
management
March 2013
After a number of security incidents at its office
park in Morningside, Sandton, a large international
organisation that focuses primarily on engineering
and construction market sectors, needed to deploy
a remotely managed closed circuit television
(CCTV) solution to combat the increasing instances
of crime and theft.
The Group was also looking to contract the services of a specialist security
surveillance company that can take full responsibility for the centralised management
of security incident reporting at its premises.
“One of the most experienced resellers in our stable, Into Risk Management Security
Solutions, proposed a fully redundant SerVision Digital Video Recording (DVR)
surveillance solution to the Group, which is delivered directly over an IP-based
network and administered at their offices off-site.
“This allows the Group to have the benefit of 24 hour pro-active monitoring services
and recording of all activities in its four buildings via 37 strategically placed cameras,”
says Mark Chertkow, Managing Director at Graphic Image Technologies.
Into Risk Management Security Solutions installed the cameras in and around each of
the buildings which are attached to four SerVision DVRs in a dedicated local area
network (LAN) environment. The video feeds are delivered over a wide area network
(WAN) to Into Risk Management's offices via two fully redundant ADSL lines.
“The high cost of bandwidth as well as broadband Internet's inconsistent delivery of
data hampers remote pure IP-based video surveillance as a practical solution.
However, SerVision's DVR technology is a true narrowband offering, which uses
proprietary compression algorithms to deliver clear video from 8Kbps to 2Mbps
directly to desktops, smartphones or iPad and Android tablets at a fraction of the
bandwidth and cost of other IP-based CCTV solutions,” says Martin Goosen, partner
at Into Risk Management Security Solutions.
“We have a dedicated team of skilled security professionals that monitor the cameras
around the clock and work together with the Group's on-site teams to resolve
incidents as and when they occur,” he says.
With SerVision's software-based motion detection sensors (VMD) and support for
external sensors, control room personnel are automatically alerted in the case of an
event trigger and are able to respond in real time. Additionally, automated notifications
are sent by SMS or e-mail if there is a suspicious security event.
Goosen says since the solution was deployed the Group has successfully caught and
prosecuted several individuals who were found guilty of theft or poor performance.
“In addition to the surveillance services, we are also able to report on whether the
guards do their patrols effectively and via SerVision's ability to remotely download the
video we can give the Group a compressed time-stamped view of a day's security
events if requested.
“Also, we are assisting with alarm verification and work very closely with the Group's
outside armed response services in case of false alarms and real security breaches,”
says Goosen.
Adds Chertkow: “Security surveillance management today is a lot more than just
ensuring that the physical buildings are protected. Criminals are becoming
increasingly sophisticated to gain unauthorised access at office parks during business
hours in clear view. Companies need a pro-active security strategy in place to ensure
that their business assets and interests remain protected.”
